About the 3 Mile Lake Association

The Three Mile Lake Association was founded in 1968. It was incorporated in 2005 and operates today as the “voice” of Three Mile Lake constituents.
The elected Board of Directors are charged, by the membership, to maintain a liaison with the Township of Muskoka Lakes and all other entities that can and do influence the quality of life around, on and in the lake.

The major initiatives the Board is currently working on are: developing a Cottage Watch program, a Lake Plan and an aggressive membership drive.

Many are probably familiar with Neighbourhood Watch. The Cottage Watch program is the same thing only participants are looking out for the well being of your cottage. Director, Susan Smart is heading the initiative. It is in a trial stage on Shea Road, at the moment, but will slowly be phased into other areas surrounding Three Mile Lake until the majority of the lake is covered under the program. The goal is to make our lake a safer place on which to own property.

The Lake Plan is a learning tool. It will help all of us be better citizens of Three Mile Lake. Besides chronicling the original history of the lake from creation, through early discovery, the first settlers and the development of the lake as a prime recreation area, the Plan will also focus on three major areas of interest: 1. clean water, 2. septic care and maintenance and 3. good recreation and lake etiquette. The goal is to educate our residents and visitors to ways that can make the lake better - better in terms of water quality (septics) and recreationally which will give us an improved quality of life around the lake. Wouldn’t it be great if in 50 years from now, as our grandchildren are enjoying Three Mile Lake, it is in better condition than it is today.

Membership is very important to the Association. Many of our residents call upon the Association for assistance in dealing with matters that directly affect them. It is not the Association’s intention, or place, to be a whistle blower, however, there is no reason we can not direct our member to the appropriate place for help. When the Association does get involved, the number of members directly effects our influence. There are over 620 waterfront properties on Three Mile Lake and in order to be a strong voice for the community, we need a strong majority of property owners as members. We are actively seeking new members through a much revised and informative website. Please browse the site and learn more of what the Association is doing. And do plan to become a member.

About the New 3 Mile Lake Flag

In 2006, the TMLA asked the community to submit flag designs to acknowledge and encourage the positive stewardship of 3 Milers. At the annual general meeting in 2007, the membership was presented with design options. Ultimately the present TMLA logo, created by Helen Martin, Anne McTaggart and Margot Snow with the help and inspiration of others, was chosen.

In June 2008 the first flags were sent to all members of the 3 Mile Lake Association.
